Easter Bonnet Parade for Young & Old in Gatley

Gatley’s Honeybear Nursery & Pre-School visited the residential home, Ashbourne House for a joint celebration of Easter.

Pre-School children from Honeybear Nursery have been visiting the residents at Ashbourne House every other week for the last two years.

Martin Sorrell, the owner-manager of Ashbourne House which this year celebrates 30 years commented: “Our residents love the young children visiting them.  It’s great to see their faces light up when the children run in to see them.  Despite the 90 years’ age gap between the children and our eldest residents, they really do enjoy the interaction.”

The team from Honeybear Nursery & Pre-School brought eight children aged four to visit the residents.  The children and the Ashbourne House residents had all created Easter bonnets to celebrate the occasion.  The Ashbourne House team had organised a number of activities for the children, including an Easter Egg Hunt in their garden, planting sunflower seeds, colouring-in pictures of Easter Eggs, decorating cookies and Easter cards.  This was all rounded off with Afternoon-Tea including homemade scones and cakes.

Bernadetta Devine, owner of Honeybear Nursery & Pre-School commented: “The children really look forward to visiting their friends at Ashbourne House, who they refer to as ‘the nanas and grandads’.  It’s lovely to see the two generations sharing stories and laughter; and really benefits the children.”
