Winnie the Pooh Day – 18th January 2023

Winnie the Pooh Day is the 18th of January every year, in honour of author AA Milne’s birthday.

The Winnie the Pooh characters were inspired by toys that belonged to the author’s son, Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh was based on and named after his teddy bear. The original Winnie the Pooh was bought as a first birthday present for Christopher Robin from Harrods, in London. He could growl. The bear was named after Winnie, a famous Canadian black bear who lived in London Zoo.

The original Winnie the Pooh stories and poetry books have sold over 50 million copies since they were published.

Whilst Winnie the Pooh was not always the brightest of the characters, he did have some wonderful uplifting sayings.  Here are just a few of them:

“A hug is always the right size”

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart”

“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear”

“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes”

“Before beginning a Hunt, it is wise to ask someone what you are looking for before you begin looking for it”

“I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I have been.”

Why not print off this colouring-in sheet of Winnie the Pooh and his friends.  We would love to see the beautiful pictures that you create with your little one.
